Adults with Autism Sketching & Painting

Monday 6 May 2024

  • Scarborough Streets - Beeforth's Hive

We are pleased to offer an art session for adults on the autistic spectrum along with their caregivers who are encouraged to provide support. The session will be facilitated by a Creative Minds artist who works in the local community providing inclusive art sessions. Rather than formal teaching of techniques and theory, Creative Minds’ mission is to enable participants to connect to their own creativity and explore their own means of producing artwork in order to express themselves and bring about a sense of well-being. After we meet at Beeforth's Hive, we will head outside where we have a wonderful view over the South Bay. Participants will be encouraged to make sketches of their surroundings using either graphite or coloured pencils. They may want to sketch the entire bay with landmarks such as the castle on the headland, the harbour with its boats and the light house or perhaps they would prefer to concentrate on one element of the view. After twenty minutes or so, we will head back to Beeforth Hive to create paintings from our drawings. Visual references will be available as well as painting materials and the session can be tailored to each individual’s needs. Quiet space is available if participants wish to take a break away from the main activity area. Caregivers are encouraged to participate in the workshop. Our tutors will provide guidance and support to help caregivers engage effectively during the workshop. Monday 6 May 1pm - 3pm with Sarah Wilkie This workshop is based at: Beeforth's Hive Esplanade Scarborough YO11 2BA Includes all materials and refreshments. Workshop is subject to change in case of adverse weather and will take place indoors.
