This 6-week intermediate drawing course is designed for those with a basic understanding of drawing who are looking to refine their skills and explore more complex techniques. Throughout the course, you’ll deepen your knowledge of form, composition, and artistic expression, while working on more advanced subjects and projects. Week 1: Advanced Shading and Textures Review of basic shading techniques and introduction to more advanced methods Exploring different textures (metal, wood, fabric, glass) using shading Developing tonal contrast for realism and depth Week 2: Complex Forms and Composition Drawing complex objects with multiple parts (e.g., draped fabric, mechanical objects) Understanding negative space and composition Arranging elements in a balanced composition Creating a dynamic still life from multiple objects Week 3: Exploring Perspective in Depth Advanced one-point and two-point perspective techniques Introduction to three-point perspective for drawing more dynamic angles Creating depth and movement in a drawing using perspective Applying perspective to landscapes and architectural elements Week 4: Figure Drawing Proportions of the human body in greater detail Introduction to gesture drawing for capturing movement Exploring anatomy and muscle structure Drawing the figure from life or reference, focusing on posture and proportion Week 5: Creative Expression and Style Development Exploring different drawing styles and methods (realism, abstraction, impressionism) Encouraging experimentation with media (charcoal, graphite, ink) Developing your own artistic style through guided exercises Applying style to still life, portrait, or abstract subjects Week 6: Final Project and Critique Select a subject of your choice (portrait, figure, landscape, abstract) for a final drawing Applying all techniques learned: shading, texture, perspective, and style Individual guidance and feedback to help refine your piece By the end of this course, you will have refined your drawing techniques and developed your artistic voice. This course encourages personal expression while reinforcing technical skills. All materials are provided. Suitable for those with prior drawing experience. Every Saturday Saturday 13 September to Saturday 18 October 2025 1.30pm - 4pm with Annie Quicke This workshop takes place at: Hummersknott Academy Edinburgh Drive Darlington DL3 8AR Includes all materials and refreshments.

The cancellation period will end 14 days from the date of purchase when you purchased a service.
