Chalk & Pastels for Beginners
Sunday 12 January - Scarborough
Available spaces
You don't need experience to attend this workshop, as it will suit beginners and experienced pastelists alike. This workshop promises to be a wonderful day of learning how to handle pastels on a specific high-quality pastel paper. Your hands and fingers will get dirty with the rubbing, working and blending of the pastels on the paper, so it might be an idea to bring an apron as it could get a little messy. You will be using chalk pastels, not oil pastels. Materials are provided and Jeremy recommends you leave your pastels at home and use the ones he recommends. Not all pastels and paper sold are suitable for serious work, and may even be a barrier toward achieving good results. As mentioned, all materials needed for the workshop will be included and you will be able to take home the pastels you are using on the day. You will paint one pastel picture in the morning and the other in the afternoon, working step-by-step from start to finish, dealing with any potential problems along the way. Everyone will leave with two superb pastel works of which you will be proud to display to your family, followers and friends! More than that, you will have picked up some good tips and advice so as to carry on with chalks and pastels long after the workshop has finished. Jeremy studied Graphic Design at Southport College of Art, (1972-5) and Illustration at Harrow College of Art, London (1975-8) and has been a professional artist and illustrator since, working on a wide variety of books, magazines and greeting cards. Jeremy undertakes commissions in all paint media and has done work for The Royal Horticultural Society, Bradford Exchange Limited Edition Plates, RCA Records, The British Tourist Authority and American Express Travel Guides, amongst many others. He has demonstrated for St. Cuthbert's Paper Mill, the makers of Bockingford and Saunders Waterford watercolour papers, and was Senior Tutor and Principal UK demonstrator for the Michael Wilcox School of Colour. Sunday 12 January 2025 10am - 4pm with Jeremy Ford This course takes place at: North Yorks Art School 2-4 South Street Scarborough YO11 2BP All materials, refreshments and lunch provided.
